Turin Shroud created by huge burst of energy, say scientists.

Scientists at Italy's National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development have recently announced that the image on the Turin Shroud must have been created by a huge burst of energy.

Professor Paulo di Lazzaro and his team spent years trying to reproduce the Shroud markings and were only able to do so with short bursts of UV directional radiation. They concluded that only ultraviolet lasers or some form of electromagnetic energy (such as a flash of light at shortwave length) could have created the image of a bearded man on the Shroud of Turin.

THE SHROUD OF TURIN

Recent research suggests that the Turin Shroud is between 1,300 and 3,000 years old, which contradicts the findings of radiocarbon dating carried out in the late 1980s. The conclusion of which was that the Shroud was a medieval fake. However, a research paper published in 'Thermochimica Acta' highlighted that the 1988 carbon dating was carried out on a medieval patch woven into the Shroud to repair fire damage and not the original Shroud cloth. The woven patch used contained a chemical called Vanillin which is not present in the original Shroud fibres - this indicates that the Shroud linen could be as old as the Dead Sea scrolls linen. Many experts now believe that the Shroud could be old enough to be Jesus Christ's burial cloth.

The artist Graham Milton has painted a portrait of the face in the Shroud of Turin. Is this the face of Jesus Christ?

Face in the Shroud

The Face in the Shroud is an oil painting where I have fleshed out the image of the ‘face’ in the Turin Shroud. I feel the painting gives a clearer idea of what the man who created the imprint could have looked like, which many believe to be the face of Jesus Christ.

I have long been fascinated by the Turin Shroud, particularly its origins. As a portrait artist I felt it would be a challenge to try and flesh out the imprinted image of the face on the Shroud cloth. I have worked on the painting on and off for a number of years with the aim of making the rendition as accurate as possible. Assuming that this was the face of Christ I was mindful of the approximate age of Jesus when crucified and also that it was unlikely Christ would be a white European man but would have a darker complexion with Middle-Eastern features.
